Humans dress up to look confident and presentable. Dogs are also dressed up by humans so that they will look cute and fashionable.
We have already seen a lot of cute dog photos on the Internet wearing costumes and fashionable outfits. Dogs like the attention they are getting from other people when they know that they are wearing something adorable.
Sadly, shelter dogs do not get a lot of attention. They look dull and unattractive to some people. As a result, they are the least to be adopted.
One boy from New Jersey has thought of sewing bow ties to the shelter dogs so that they will have a higher chance of being adopted.
Darius Brown, 13 years old, has developmental delays (speech, comprehension, and fine motor skills). Despite his condition, it never stopped him for showing his love and care to the dogs in the shelter.
Darius is also a determined kid. At eight years old, he is already helping his older sister in cutting fabric. By assisting his sister in sewing projects, that is where he discovered his talent in using the sewing machine.
Darius started his own company, “Beaux and Paws” at 11 years old. His company specializes in creating fashionable, unique, and stylish bow ties for pets. Darius personally handpicks the fabrics and sews each bow tie.
Part of his company’s mission is giving back to the needy. A portion of the sales is given donated to ASPCA. Also, Darius has donated numerous bow ties to several animal shelters and adoption centers across the United States and the United Kingdom.
Darius desired to help the dogs in need after he has learned about the displaced dogs during Hurricane Harvey and Hurricane Irma. A lot of dogs were left by their owners and never got a chance to be reunited. These dogs were sent to different animal shelters in the United States. Sadly, some dogs had to be put to sleep due to a lack of adopters. Darius made a promise that he would try to help these dogs to be adopted in his little way. By sewing bow ties for these dogs, he firmly believed that it gave the dogs better chances to be chosen.
Because of his cause, Darius has been featured in some articles and TV shows. He has also been recognized by celebrities, including former President Barack Obama. He received a letter of recognition from the President.
Darius has also received awards from several award-giving bodies. His awards include a Leadership Award from Leaders of the Future No Limits, Outstanding Achievement Award from the WDIB Conference, Youth Changer Award from Excel Honors, and Jasmina Anema Youth Award from the Black Cotton Foundation.
Continue with your cause, Darius, and inspire other young people to have a heart for animals in need.
