This story is one of miraculous love and loyalty.
Meet Max, a 17-year-old blue heeler from Australia who never left the side of his dear 3-year-old companion.
The child in this story is little Aurora. Aurora went wandering in the woods near her granny’s home. Luckily, Aurora did not wander alone. She was joined by Max, her granny’s senior blue heeler. Max never left her side every step of the way. It’s chilling to process how the two managed to survive in the woods the entire night that they both wandered off but both miraculously survived and we’re all in awe of the tale.
The day Aurora wandered off, she was reported missing by 3:00pm on Friday. Upon report, an initial search of surrounding woodlands and hills came up empty. The search got much tougher when it began to rain.
The search continued on Saturday morning. And by 8:00 am, heaven smiled upon them as they found Aurora being carefully guarded by Max.
Aurora was located when her granny, Leisa Bennett, heard her calling her name from a mountaintop located two kilometers from their home.
Leisa heard “Granny!” again and again and upon hearing it, she quickly ran towards the mountaintop. When she reached the top, she was welcomed by Max who then guided her to where Aurora is. Needless to say “Granny” and Aurora shed tears of joy and relief.
Rescuers were amazed at how Max never left Aurora’s side. The area was very steep and tricky to maneuver. They truly considered the elder dog a hero.
Luckily, Aurora suffered no major injuries aside from minor cuts and abrasions. Max suffered no injuries and did an incredible job of protecting both he and Aurora.
The police force was very grateful for what Max did. So much so that they named Max an honorary police dog. Of course, Max will never understand this kind of honor. But we can be sure that though Max may not understand the greatness of his deed, he knows that he’ll do it all over again to protect his beloved Aurora.
