You do not need the most expensive vacuum ever created or a wet vac to keep your hair free from dog hair. There are several basic things you can do to clean your canine’s coat. Here are 8 simple tips for cleaning up dog hair you might try.
1. Have some tape and use this to get off those loose hair of your dog
If you have ever been heading out on your way to work only to realize you are covered in dog hair, you are not alone. A good solution is to keep some duct or packing tape near your door to use for all of those last minute, frantic moments. A lint roller would also be useful but they tend to run out more quickly, thus making it a more expensive alternative.
2. Damp and sweep up your carpet right before vacuuming
If your dog’s hair tends to get stuck right on your carpet, a great way to pick it up is to damp up your carpet, then get a broom made of rubber to get out most of that hair and into a ball. If you’re looking to rid your carpet of pet odors as well, you can sprinkle a bit of baking soda onto the carpet and allow it to sit for at least 10 minutes prior to vacuuming.
It is important to be sure not to over-dampen your carpet, because carpet that is soaking wet does not dry very quickly. Not to mention, a wet carpet is ideal for mold and mildew to begin a home. Slightly dampened, as opposed to soaked, will be good to go.
3. Use a damp mop for all floors made from vinyl or hardwood
You can utilize a damp mop so you can pick up your dog’s hair if you have hardwood or vinyl flooring. When trying to pick up dog hair, the damp mop acts like a magnet. Make sure you are using a cleaning product made especially for wood (most likely this will need some sort of dilution so check the instructions) for your hardwood floors, and ensure there are not any water on your floor for safety.
4. Use a sponge that is damp for your upholstered furniture
An easy way to remove the hair off all of your furniture is to use a sponge that is damp. Dog hair will cling right to it. This will help to remove majority of the dog hair on your upholstered items.
5. Vacuum in varying directions as this has proven to get more of dog hair out
It may not have occured to you, but going over your carpet several times in different directions will give you exponential results. This will loosen more of the embedded hairs, allowing them to be freed and cleaned up. Be sure that you empty all of the contents of your vacuum frequently and make sure to check all of the filters; clogged filters can hinder your vacuuming success.
