Thanksgiving is coming! Are you and your dog ready for it? We know that you’ve got a hundred things to do on your list and we want to make things easier for you. Rightly so, we’re sharing five tips on how to ensure that you get to enjoy a lovely Thanksgiving without compromising your dog’s health, safety, and well-being!
Tip # 1: Find time for your dog to have solid exercise in the morning.
Schedule a long walk or hike in the morning. This will ensure that your dog is in a proper emotional state with no pent-up energy. Your dog will be more relaxed and calm after a solid morning exercise.
Tip # 2: Have your dog occupied with toys.
It’s hard to keep your dog’s interest from all the meals that you’re cooking, so it’s best to keep your dog busy with lots of toys and treats. Ensure that your dog is fully occupied and busy to avoid any kind of eating accidents.
Tip # 3: Set up a clear barrier.
Keep your dog away from the kitchen by setting up a barrier. This barrier should also be in place while you’re having your Thanksgiving dinner. This may feel like a cop-out but it’s the best thing to do to ensure that your dog does not accidentally eat anything toxic. If your dog is crate-trained, then you can simply have your dog stay in a crate filled with toys and a few treats. Treat-stuffed toys will be perfect!
Tip # 4: Strict clean-up strategy.
Immediately clean up everything right after the meal. Don’t expose your dog to tempting meals all over the place. Put the garbage out as well as your dog may go through it.
Tip # 5: Post-meal walk.
A walk with your dog after a large Thanksgiving meal is best. Your dog will be so happy and feel loved while you get to enjoy a light exercise as well.
