Dogs come in various shapes, sizes, and, of course, colors. There are black dogs, white pups, brown pooches, and gray canines.
But have you ever heard of green puppies? As it turns out, they exist!
A farmer from Italy named Cristian Malloci was quite shocked when Spelacchia, his dog, gave birth to a litter with a green pup. Learn more about this almost verdant dog by reading the story below.
Meet Pistachio
Cristian is no longer stranger to having dogs around. In fact, he had eight pups. After all, he ran a farm with his brother-in-law, and dogs were usually necessary for such places.
However, this was Cristian’s first time to see a dog that was born green. And given the little puppy’s almost lush and vibrant color, the Italian farmer thought it was just apt to name him Pistachio. It was definitely a great name choice.
Pictures and videos of Pistachio had been uploaded online. On Twitter, a lot of netizens had something funny to say. One commenter said that the dog was probably vegan. Another said he hoped that the Marvel Cinematic Universe was thinking what he was thinking — probably referencing the Incredible Hulk.
On YouTube, one commenter said that the green pup was pretty pawsome. Another suggested a better name for the puppy: Clover. A third commenter jokingly said that the little dog was born ready for Saint Patrick’s Day. A fourth netizen, however, rang the truth that Pistachio didn’t even know he was famous.
There’s nothing to worry about!
Are you wondering about what caused Pistachio’s fur to turn green? As it turns out, the pigmentation is a result of the dog coming in contact with a pigment known as biliverdin while inside the mama dog’s womb. The same pigment is actually the one that makes bruises quite green at times.
Thankfully, the said pigment is harmless. And while Pistachio looks cute in his greenish coat, the color will not last forever.
