Everyone is searching for ways to look and feel better. Millennials are constantly advertising claims of things that will help you transform your life. The search for ways to improve our overall health is an ongoing journey. Could the answers be right in front of our noses?
Most “well being” professionals agree that exercise, stress reduction and improved nutrition are the quickest ways to your overall health. When searching for better “wellness” don’t forget about your pets. In fact you can now get the help of wellness veterinarians. Here are a few simple ways to help improve your pet’s overall health.
Daily Exercise
Dogs really need help from their human counterparts to get daily exercise. Unlike cats who naturally wander around and are able to get there own exercise, dogs require human assistance for there exercise and regular walks. Many dog owners work long hours or live in a city where it is tough to find a place to walk their dog. Even if these are issues for you, make your dog a priority and take them on a quick walk around the block or just throw a ball for them to fetch in the house to get them some exercise.
This will help boost their circulation, which in turn promotes healthy digestion and mental stimulation. You do not have to spend hours daily with your dog to help them get their daily exercise. Just a few short 10 minute bursts each day will be all your dog needs to get there required daily activity. Hiring a dog-walker is another great way to get your dog their necessary exercise if you simply do not have enough time.
Helping your dog get daily exercise not only helps their physical health but also helps get them much needed mental stimulation. Always remember to muzzle your dog if they are large or a a danger to other dogs on the walking route. Safety should always be a priority.
Good Nutrition
Good nutrition is also imperative for your dogs well being so make sure to know what your dog’s daily needs are. There are many different types of food to choose from – meat, vegetarian, wet or dry. You also need to consider the different concentrations of nutrients in each. Everyone gives their dogs scraps or leftovers, but be sure to moderate this and make sure not to give them food that is harmful to their digestive systems. Different species of dogs face gastro-intestinal issues and have a more delicate digestive system.
Foods that may be perfectly healthy for humans can be harmful to dogs. Dogs do not have the enzyme to break down milk sugars found in chocolate, garlic, onions and large of amounts of dairy, so never include these food in their diets. Salty foods are also bad for dogs because they cannot process sodium like humans can. A large amount of sodium can cause dehydration for dogs and in some extreme cases sodium ion poisoning leading to seizures. If you have questions about your dog’s diet consult your vet and they will guide you to the correct choices.
Hydration
Humans are told to drink at least 64 ounces of water daily. You need to remember that hydration is just as important for your dog. Their thick coats make it harder for them to cool down after exercise. The best way to keep them cool is to keep them hydrated, and more so in warmer weather. Like in humans dehydration can lead to a variety of issues including lethargy, nausea, vomiting and the list goes on. Pregnant and older dogs are particularly sensitive ti dehydration so make sure to have plenty of water out at all times.
Make sure their water is fresh and the water bowl is cleaned daily. When going on trips with your dog make sure to have a clean bowl with you. Always keep the bowl in an area where your dog can find it and has constant access to the clean water.
Reduce Stress
Stress is not only a danger to humans. Our dogs can feel both internal and external stress. Fireworks, large crowds and other loud noises can all be very stressful for dogs. Dogs also hate to be separated from their owners for long periods of time. Separation anxiety is just as real for dogs as it is for us. Love and attention are the most important things you can give your pet, but there are a few other things you can do to help your dog’s stress levels.
Regular exercise will help keep your dog’s mind going and will do wonders for their mental health. CBD oil can be very effective in helping your dog with anxiety disorders. CBD oil is perfectly healthy for your pet and it can also help as an anti-inflammatory to aid with muscle and joint pain. Hemp rope and dog treats infused with CBD products are two ways your dog can enjoy these benefits.
