As adults, we spend a good part of the day in the office, where we inevitably form bonds and create friendships with our colleagues. They may not be as close as our friendships with our pals outside of work, but they can still be important people to us.
Now, what if your coworker is a dog? That certainly makes everything different.
If you ask any canine officer or anybody who works with dogs for a living, not a single one of them would deny that their dog is a close friend. There are many people in the world who despise dogs, but they would never be hired to work with these amazing animals.
It is safe to say that having a dog at work would be a great thing. You would most probably develop a friendship with your dog and you would be BFFs. Given how friendly dogs are, it is very unlikely that you wouldn’t want to have this animal as your BFF. You’d most especially do everything for them.
A Cleveland, Ohio police officer was tested on this when he faced a difficult dilemma – say goodbye to his beloved canine partner or pay a significant chunk of money out of his own pocket.
Officer Matt Suster and his trusted canine companion, General, were the ones who had to face this dilemma. They had been providing security for University Hospitals in Cleveland for two years when, one day, General got into Matt’s car and yelped. Evidently, something was wrong, so Matt took him to the veterinarian.
It was discovered that General had an unusual disorder in which the nerves in his back were compressed whenever he made any quick movements. Matt was asked if he’d choose to return his companion to his superiors and receive a replacement dog, or pay $5,000 out of pocket for General’s treatment and keep him.
Matt’s decision was rather simple. He said that it’s like being asked to give up your child, and he will not allow that to happen. He started a GoFundMe campaign for General’s care, and he was back in action after his surgery. The excess funds that they received were donated to a charity benefiting retired K9 cops.
