A very special league of good boys and girls starred in Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School yearbook this year and it’s all the love and inspiration we need today.
Following the tragic mass shooting last year, the school opened its grounds to returning staff and students with 14 furry and loving therapy dogs. These dogs have helped in the continuous healing of the entire student body as their presence calms and soothes everyone.
The idea to feature them started after the photo shoot of the dog of the school’s media specialist for the yearbook. Finding it adorable, the editors figured that they should also include all the therapy dogs that have played such a huge role in the restoration and healing of their community.
Featuring them served as the school’s way of honoring their priceless contribution in restoring the sense of calm and safety in the school. All 14 of them were free to roam around campus and were always attended to. They were all leashed, calmly, and gentle. Just seeing them around brought instant smiles and giggles from staffs and students alike.
All dogs are from various volunteer handlers from different canine organizations that were quick to help and have been consistent in spreading wholesome love throughout the school year through their adorable and healing therapy dogs.
Apart from building a safer and calm sense of community in their school, seeing the dogs around the campus also helped students in handling stress and anxiety. Something about them really calms the spirit and sends a message that everything will be alright. Truly, dogs are angels in disguise!
With the release of the yearbook, all students are sure to want to have their copies signed by all 14 adorable dogs! What a way to end a schoolyear!
