Bass, a Belgian Malinois, is part of the United States Marine Corps special operations team. He closely works with the team when they are on the battlefield. Bass is trained to withstand noise coming from grenade explosions and gunshots. He is one brave dog who is willing to die for the country.
Bass had undergone extensive training to prepare him for the real action. He was good at sniffing explosives and patrolling the barracks. Bass won’t hesitate in attacking people with bad intentions, and yes, he was very good at it.
One of the most prominent features of Bass is his piercing eyes. His eyes show that he is brave to face challenges while on a mission. Retired Marine Staff Sergeant Alex Schnell, Bass’ handler, said that it is an honor for him to work alongside the courageous dog in Afghanistan, Somalia, and Iraq.
According to Staff Sergeant Schnell, Bass is one amazing dog that other soldiers are requesting to work with him!
Bass served the Marine Corps for a total of six years. During his career, he was able to track down numerous enemies and detected 350 explosives. Bass was also part of more than a dozen missions, which includes tracking down high-value targets. Also, no soldier died under Bass’ watch.
In November 2019, Bass’ efforts were recognized. He was awarded the Medal of Bravery together with other animals that served the military. The award was given by Angels Without Wings, a non-profit organization that recognized the hard work of military working dogs while in action. The Medal of Bravery award was inspired by the Dickin Medal, a British award for animals who served in the military.
Indeed, Bass deserves to receive that award.
Congratulations, Bass, and continue to serve our country! You’re one true American hero!
