Because they are primarily bred for hunting, Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retrievers have a lot of activity and are sometimes seen chasing away animals in yards. This Toller from California, however, is not like most of his breed. He prefers to make friends with his prey rather than hunt them down, garnering him an unusual title.
This dog is Milo and he had spent most of his days hanging out with a woman named Jen Bennett in her flower garden from the day he was acquired as a puppy. This was unsurprising, given the Bennetts’ garden’s abundance of vibrant flowers and plants, which made it an ideal hangout location for anyone.
Milo would usually lie by Jen in the flowerbeds and observe as she diligently cared for the plants in the yard and worked in the flowerbeds. Because the garden had a lot of flowers, Jen chose to raise monarch butterflies in their yard over time.
Jen would look after the caterpillars in her flowerbeds, and if Milo was around, she’d show the pup the little insects. Milo, being the smart dog that he is, ultimately realized that the insects were his buddies, and when they began to transition into butterflies, he was nothing but nice and sweet to them.
Milo would simply sit still and watch the delicate insects whenever they caught a fresh butterfly sitting on the flowers in the garden. This appeared to appeal to the butterflies, and it wasn’t long before they began perching on Milo as well. They would frequently land on the dog’s head and say hello.
Whenever this occurred, the pooch was really kind to them and allowed them to stay as long as they desired. Jen quickly made this her favorite sight to photograph.
To show off her dog’s compassionate nature, she created an Instagram account for him, which she filled with photos of him hanging around with his butterfly pals.
The dog’s Facebook profile now has nearly 25,000 fans, all of whom have dubbed him the “Butterfly King.”
