Dogs are naturally always on the go, energetic and alert. These characteristics can sometimes be tough to deal with when they become uncontrollable and unpredictable. Luckily, taming a dog is not nearly as hard as it may seem and there are many ways to achieve desirable results. Below are some of the most popular ways to tame your dog:
1. Exercise your dog regularly
Dogs have TONS of energy…by giving your dog daily strenuous exercise you will make it more difficult for them to misbehave, because they will be tired. Helping your dog use up all of their stored up energy is a healthy, fun way to discipline them. Long walks, stimulating games and playing fetch are just a few ways for you to help your dog burn off all that energy. Not only will your dog benefit, but you could burn some calories in the process.
2. Redirect the energy
Bored dogs have a tendency to be more hyper and active. Redirecting a dogs energy doesn’t mean that you’d have to babysit them 24/7. Make sure you have plenty of chew toys, food puzzles and other objects around to help stimulate your dog during the day. I have found having other pets around helps a lot also. We as humans need stimulation, so why would your dog be any different.
3. Establish a routine
A human can find routine boring at times, but dogs absolutely love it. Establishing a routine with your dog means that you will have to feed, walk and play with your dog at certain times each day. Doing so will give you control over your dog and give them something to look forward to each day.
4. Alter the diet
Never feed your dog the same food every single meal. Not only will this contribute to your dog being uncontrollable, but they will also lose their appetite. Think of it this way…you may love eggs, but would you want to eat them every meal? Keep your dog happy and there behavior will be much better. You may also want to try and keep sugar out of your dog’s diet. This will also help keep there hyperactivity under control.
Taming a dog has never been easier. Just focus on a few simple things and be consistent. Keep in mind that the behavior of your dog is dependent on how you raise and treat them. When in doubt think of what you would need to do to burn of some additional energy and apply to your awesome dog. We all Love Dogs!!!
