A group of rescuers from Diasozo Animal Rescue, a local rescue organization in Karditsa, Greece, were en route to save a stray dog when they discovered another stray on the side of the road. They had no intention of rescuing him, but he was there, waiting for help. Therefore, they chose to save him first.
Ermionni Giannakou, the leader of the rescue team, exited the vehicle and slowly approached the dog. Due to his filthy and matted fur, she was unable to determine his breed, but she knew that beneath that coat was a loving dog.
The rescuer began befriending the dog instantly. She spoke kindly to him and reassured him that he was secure with her. However, when she attempted to touch him, he almost bit her.
It appeared to be a dangerous operation, but Ermionni would not be deterred. She believed that the dog was merely afraid and required only a short period of time to gain her trust. And so, she gave him time. She followed him after he left and waited until he was entirely at ease with her presence.
The dog walked to the opposite street but halted abruptly in front of a building. He was likely tired and in need of some rest. To the rescuer, it told her that it was the right time to take action. She followed closely behind him and attempted to save him once more.
Ermionni was able to touch the dog and even carry him in her arms, unlike her previous attempt. She took the chance of being bitten to save him, and she was glad she did. She understood that if she actually did not go and do it, no one else would.
After placing the dog in the vehicle, the rescuers decided to divide into two groups. Some of them continued with their original rescue goal, while Ermionni drove the dog, she named Morgous, to the veterinarian and made sure he received the necessary medical care. Later, when she had him groomed, she was amazed by how gorgeous he looked.
Soon after receiving a clean bill of health, Morgous left the facility. The good news was that he did not have to remain in the shelter for long, as Ermionni searched for an adoptive home for him while he recovered. From the veterinarian’s clinic, he proceeded directly to his forever home.
