Dogs deserve all the love in the world. This story has a sad backdrop but it’s overpowered by
hope through the acts of a kind woman that lives a life full of love. So much so that she gets to
share the love in her heart to the darling dogs in our story.
Every year, at least 1.5 million dogs are abandoned and euthanized in US shelters. Through the
years, statistics have been steadily decreasing but it’s a sad fact that such situation still exists.
One woman took it upon herself to help solve the situation despite her limited means with
what she’s got.
Meet Nicola Coyle, a 46-year-old retired nurse who took it upon herself to take care of
abandoned dogs in shelters with chronic diseases and few more days to live. She saw the
gravity of the situation and understood that she has the ability to help in one way or another.
What made her act extra special is the understanding that most of the dogs that get euthanized
are the ones who are old and/or with chronic diseases. She then made it her personal goal to
adopt such dogs to provide them with all the love and nourishment they need in their last
remaining days.
She then founded the Grey Muzzle Canine Hospice Project that has been caring for elderly and
sick dogs through the help of her kids, volunteers, and donations for years now.
She takes only two dogs at a time and makes sure that both are fully taken care of given all the
attention, cuddles, treats, and belly rubs they deserve. All dogs that go through her hospice
gets to celebrate their birthday. She makes it a point to celebrate their birthday even if she
doesn’t know the exact date as such dogs were abandoned. She goes out of her way to really
celebrate and nourish all the dogs in her care during their last dying days.
The hardest part is having to say goodbye to each dogs when they’re time to pass the rainbow
bridge has come but she gets the emotional support and solid presence of her kids that help
her get by.
To this day, she has housed more than 20 dogs and she intends to keep on going. What a
blessing and solid inspiration Nicola is to everyone! Indeed, when there’s a will, there’s a way.
Something could always be done!
