There are several blood banks worldwide available for people who need blood donations. However, this is not the case for dogs. Although our fur friends are more prone to sustain injuries or get sick, their blood sources are scarce. Fortunately for a sick pup named Danny, a heroic dog came to his rescue.
Danny is a senior pup suffering from a chronic kidney condition. The effects of his condition led him to need a blood transfusion. This senior spitz’s fur parents went all out to look for dogs who were willing to donate their blood to this precious pup. They even went on to another city just to find a blood donor. Thankfully, they found one.
Upon learning about Danny’s situation, Anindya Chatterjee took Siya, his labrador, to the animal clinic to donate blood. As the labrador was sociable and charming, donating his blood to save Danny went smoothly. There was no need for Siya to get sedated as he was very cooperative during the procedure, which lasted about 15 minutes.
Thanks to Anindya’s kindness and Siya’s cooperation, Danny received a life-saving blood donation. Anindya said she was so proud that day because of Siya.
In the United States, canine blood donations are becoming more common. There are even some organizations that pay attention to making blood donation more accessible for dogs who need it the most. Such organizations accept donations from multiple locations. They even ship blood to clinics to have available canine blood on hand in case of emergencies.
However, because of the high demand and low source, many organizations encourage fur parents to get their dogs to donate blood. Some clinics do this by offering discounts or incentives to donors. Thus, if your dog is healthy, you might want to consider having their blood donated to an animal clinic and give them a chance to be a hero.
