There are plenty of human foods that are toxic to dogs but there also plenty that are safe for them to eat and enjoy. What follows are foods that humans and dogs can both heartily enjoy:
1. Celery – who would think that dogs could actually eat celery? Well, they could. Its packed with nutrients and fiber. However, they should only be served in small portions and never as meal replacements. Too much celery can cause dogs to urinate more than usual, considering the amount of fiber.
2. Cauliflower – cauliflowers are rich with folate, potassium, and Vitamins C, K, and B6. It’s a perfect addition to your dog’s meal or a treat alternative. Just make sure that it’s served in small amounts.
3. Pomegranate – yes, your dog can eat this fruit! It’s packed with antioxidants and it’s a solid source of Vitamin C. Eating it raw is allowed but only in small amounts. When buying treats for your dog, make a conscious effort to look for ones enhanced with pomegranate.
4. Zucchini – this is another good alternative to treats. It’s packed with protein, manganese, and Vitamins C and B6. It even has lutein which is good for your dog’s eyesight!
5. Cooked potato – one thing to keep in mind is to never serve raw potato. But once cooked, potatoes are a perfect treat alternative given that it’s packed with nutrients. It has more potassium than banana and has no sodium, cholesterol, or fat.
