It’s been 18 months since the dog’s owner died, and the dog still refuses to leave the spot where his owner left him.
Death is a complex concept that dogs find too hard to understand, given that all they know is love. This story is yet another example of how pure their hearts are.
The unnamed dog has been touching the hearts of people from Nafpaktos, Greece. For more than 18 months now, various individuals have made efforts to relocate the dog, but he just won’t leave the spot.
The loyal dog’s story went viral after a video of it was uploaded online.
Given that the dog won’t leave the spot, individuals provided for a make-shift kennel. The dog has also been constantly receiving food and water from strangers.
The dog’s owner died in 2017. He was hit by a cement mixer in the very spot where the dog now stays.
It’s a mystery to all as to how the dog got to the spot given that the area is almost 8 miles away from its owner’s home.
This touching story is similar to recorded incidents of dogs staying by their owner’s graves.
What is glaring though is that the spot does not actually have its owners remains. It was the spot where his owner was last seen alive before the tragic accident.
Given that dogs have a very strong sense of smell, it can be surmised that the unnamed dog continues to stay in the spot for he can still sense the essence of his owner in the area.
Sensing his owner in the area and not fully grasping the concept of death, the unnamed loyal dog is possibly still patiently waiting for his owner to return. Like Hachiko, the famous Akita Inu from Japan who spent nine years patiently waiting for his owner everyday by the train station.
Complex human concepts are hard to understand for dogs. But without explanation and training, loyalty and love is very natural to them. Truly, dogs are creatures of love.
