Mr. Williams went to the Gwinnett County Animal Welfare center in Georgia. He had to surrender his dog named Lucky who was 14 years old.
When asked why he was doing that, Mr. Williams’ answer left everyone there with tears in their eyes.
He had been evicted from his house. But since he had no family and only $40 in his pocket, he had to give the dog up.
Everything precious to him was in his vehicle. He couldn’t just leave his dog behind. He still wanted Lucky to have a place to be in where he’ll be okay.
When Mr. Williams brought Lucky to the shelter, the Deputy Director of the organization was there. He helped the man find a shelter for a week in a hotel.
Katie Corbett works at the shelter and she also felt sad at Mr. Williams’ misfortune. She learned that he had Lucky since he was still a puppy. She also wanted to help.
Katie created a post on Facebook and shared Mr. Williams’ story. She also asked netizens to help.
The next day, Joseph Popovich came to the shelter that he was willing to foster the dog until Mr. Williams was able to get his dog back.
The community helped out. Mr. Williams was given fresh food daily. He also got clothing, and gas money donations. There were also job opportunities for him but he had to choose carefully because he was disabled.
Lucky also had a group offering him medical care any time he needs it. There was also a donation of lifetime dog food supply.
There were also cash donations to help Mr. Williams get a house for him and his dog.
In the end, Mr. Williams chose to have a van where he will live with Lucky. He will be using the money to make the van a home for them. He was able to get Lucky back and they are now living happily in their home on wheels.
