Do you have a flea collar for your dog? If your fur baby has one, it’s best to check its brand because a popular brand is currently being linked to causing deaths in pets.
Since its introduction to the market in 2012, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has received 1,698 pet deaths linked to the flea collar brand Seresto. If your dog is wearing one, it’s best to stop using it immediately to be on the safe side. The EPA also reported 1,000 human harm caused by said flea collars.
In the case of Ms. Rhona Bomwell who has a 9-year-old Papillon service dog, the link is apparent. She bought a Seresto flea collar after a recommendation from her veterinarian. Just a day after wearing the collar, her dog had a seizure and died.
Such is the case with other pet owners that reported sickness and death after using the product. What is shocking to everyone is the fact that the EPA has yet to issue a warning to everyone.
The silence is all the more shocking given that Seresto’s harm is not limited to animals but humans as well. Documented public records of EPA reports regarding Seresto are as follows:
· A 12-year-old boy vomited and experienced seizures after sleeping beside a dog wearing a Seresto collar
· A 67-year-old woman experienced fatigue and heart arrhythmia after sleeping in bed with a dog wearing a Seresto collar
· A 43-year-old man experienced nasal and throat irritation and ear drainage after sleeping with four dogs that wore Seresto collars. After he removed such collars, he stopped experiencing such. When he reapplied the collars, his symptoms returned.
As the EPA is still to issue a warning to all, it’s best to avoid using such a product to keep your pet from harm. You can instead try natural remedies like DIY vinegar and lemon water sprays that are all-natural and free of strong chemicals.
Seresto’s flea collar works by slowly releasing tiny amounts of pesticide while worn by dogs. Such release kills ticks and fleas. But per evidence, it also harms dogs.
Be a responsible owner and take note of this warning! The safety and wellness of your pet should always be your priority.
