Andrew Yori, together with his wife Clara, started the Wallace the Pit Bull Foundation. Their charity assists Minnesota-based shelters by providing resources. Their aim is to develop the best environment for rescue dogs until they can get their own forever homes.
Andrew, who works as a lab technician, got his nickname, Roo, because he is a known dog lover who really goes out of his way to rescue stray dogs. He and his wife are very passionate about improving the lives of canines in need.
The foundation
Their foundation is inspired by one of their rescue dogs, who went on to become an international celebrity. Wallace is a pit bull that they met in a shelter when they were volunteering. They learned that the high-energy dog was about to get euthanized, so they offered to foster him.
Wallace developed behavioral issues inside the shelter because he didn’t have an outlet for his energy. His breed also contributed to the shelter’s decision to label him unadoptable. Fostering the dog saved his life, and it changed the couple’s lives as well.
International champ
Roo learned that disc dog activities were rising in popularity. There were many competitions that were being held in their area. To help Wallace expel his energy, he started training the dog and himself. The kind man was amazed at how well the pit bull adapted to the activity.
Soon, Roo and Wallace were inseparable, and the couple decided to adopt him. They started entering competitions, and the pit bull performed very well. He rose to the top and got invited to international contests.
Wallace became very popular and became an inspiration to a lot of people. He showed that in a sport dominated by herding breeds, a pit bull who was a former shelter dog could become the champ.
