At least 50% of senior dogs with the age of 10 years usually end up with cancer. Owners of these older dogs have a lot of ways to handle them. Some owners consult vets for treatment, and some get their dogs euthanized to help them end their suffering. However, if a particular dog lands a cruel owner, they’ll resort to abandoning them for good because having a senior dog would require “more work” for them.
One particular dog suffered misfortune when she was left for good in Highway 74 in Shelby, North Carolina. Luckily, Angela Chu, a dog owner, happened to pass by the freeway and saw the poor dog limping with her hind leg in the woods and appeared to be in so much pain.
Angela realized at that moment that no injured dog could survive in a freeway. She decided to bring the abandoned dog to the vet immediately.
After a series of tests, the vet revealed that the dog wandered for a long time already. She had very long nails and had infections all over her body, but there’s more bad news. Sadly, the vet’s diagnosis confirmed the reason why the senior dog appears to be in so much pain and keeps on limping. She has bone cancer.
If the poor dog stays nameless and homeless, she’ll have to undergo euthanasia. Angela couldn’t let that happen, though. She’s a dog owner herself, and besides, the dog is already well acquainted with her family in just a week of spending time with her. Angela decided to own the poor dog and named her Willow right after.

The senior dog’s heartbreaking story reached hundreds of people and one specific person named Keith, a Lowes employee who likes helping disabled animals by building a custom wheelchair. He reached out to Angela and made one for Willow as well!
In most recent events, Angela shared that Willow recovered and just started eating solid food again. She also gets treatment and medication from the vet to ease her pain. It’s nice to witness Willow getting a chance to live her life anew after that mistreatment from her previous owner.
Thanks to Angela and Keith’s kind heart, Willow’s last days will be happy and comfortable. This story is proof that in every abandoned dog, there will be compassion from the most unexpected circumstances.
