Smart Dog Helps Keep The Town Clean By Picking Up Trash Thrown By Humans

Smart Dog Helps Keep The Town Clean By Picking Up Trash Thrown By Humans

Dogs aren’t exactly known to be clean critters. After all, they love playing in the dirt.

But there’s one pup who seems to be allergic to mess. And her behavior will make you conscious about how you dispose of your trash.

Millie, the dog in question, is doing her best to keep the streets and roads of Hereford, England spotless. And she does that by placing the litter she finds in the bin.

Here’s Millie’s story.

Clean as you go

Alfie Kitson, Millie’s owner, would only have to point at trash on the floor and say these magic words: put that in the trash bin. After hearing that, the five-year-old Spanish Podenco would happily oblige.

Millie was a fixture in the city center, and one would find her regularly picking up litter that was irresponsibly thrown away by humans. Alfie, a former plumber, said that Millie is a smart dog who seems to enjoy this fun little trick.

A few people often asked Alfie why she and her dog liked picking up trash. Alfie responded by saying that he and Millie enjoyed doing it and that it kept the city tidy. Nevertheless, their action also served as a statement and a reminder that people should put their litter in the bin.

Millie’s past

Millie was taught this trick while she was living in Spain with Alfie and his wife Judith. When she was only around eight months old,  she was abandoned in a trash bag attached to a tree branch. Luckily, Alfie found her.

After adopting Millie, Alfie saw a soldier and his hound picking up trash at a park. He then made it a mission to get his dog to do the same trick. And it appeared that this habit stuck with her, as she had been doing the same thing in the U.K.

Alfie called Millie a member of his family. He was also glad that he could show her off to others since she was really an amazing pooch.
