Elli was a homeless dog that lived in a small village in Greece. All the neighbors knew her because she was the friendly neighborhood stray dog. People adored her so they gave her food and water all the time.
She lived a good life considering she was a stray. But one day, she got injured. The locals never discovered what precisely happened, but they believed she was hit by a speeding car. She went missing for days and no one knew where she went. And then, finally, she showed up and asked for help.
The dog probably realized she badly needed help. She went back to her neighborhood, but she was already in the worst state. She was missing a paw and the remainder of her leg was already rotten.
One of the locals sought help and got in contact with Ermioni Giannakou of DAR Animal Rescue. Without hesitations, the rescuer agreed to help. She went straight to the rescue site, where the kind man waited, and they worked together to get Elli the help she needed.
The vets revealed they could not save Elli’s leg any longer. Instead, they gave her some pain meds to help ease her discomfort. The following morning, they did the surgery and amputated her leg.
Within two days, Elli felt much better. She, however, had to stay at the vet’s clinic for a couple of weeks to ensure her recovery. And once she received her medical clearance, she continued to her foster home.
The dog thrived under the care of her foster dad, and before long, he told Ermioni that she no longer needed to look for a home because she already found one. He fell in love with her and decided to let her stay for good.
Elli lived a good life compared to other strays, and she’s fortunate to end up in a loving home. She lost a leg, but in return, she gained a wonderful family.
