For the past three years, Roscoe had been living as a stray dog in the streets of Tennessee, fending for himself and surviving on the locals’ generosity. Eventually, someone complained about him to animal control, so the brown and white pup found himself at the Washington County-Johnson City Animal Shelter seven months ago.
When he arrived at the facility, Tammy Davis, the shelter’s director, noticed that Roscoe was very reserved and timid. He didn’t like getting touched, and he showed no emotion at all. It was like the pup had no personality and was content on merely existing.
Despite his unusual behavior, the shelter staff tried winning Roscoe’s trust over the past few months. They would hand him lots of treats and play with him more frequently. However, their efforts proved to be in vain as Roscoe made it clear that he wasn’t a cuddle buddy at all and wasn’t planning on getting attached to anyone.
But not wanting to give up on finding the pup a home, the shelter staff still decided to post Roscoe’s story on their Facebook page. They were hoping that although the canine was not as outgoing as their other residents, there might be someone out there who would be his perfect match.
Almost immediately after the post went live, the staff were surprised to receive a message from a man claiming to be Roscoe’s owner. He said that the pup, who was actually named Runt, had escaped from their farm three years ago. He already gave up on finding him again until he came across the shelter’s post.
Tammy was skeptical of the claims at first, but when the man sent them photos of young Roscoe that showed his distinctive markings, they decided to arrange a meeting. On the said date, they let the man approach Roscoe in his kennel, and before they knew it, the pup was wagging his tail in delight and licking his fur dad happily.
It was indeed a teary reunion, to say the least. But Tammy and the staff were glad to see the once sad dog smiling again. Look at the adorable reunion here.
