Little P and Tonka took a hiking adventure with their owner Kris Busching and his friend Mark in Colorado. However, the group got lost, and after two days, Kris and his dogs decided to go down the canyon to get fresh water, but they fell. Even though he lost his footing, he attempted to pull up his two dogs to safety, but they ended up tumbling to the bottom. Unfortunately, Kris died on the spot while the dogs were injured.
The loyal pitbull didn’t leave Kris until the rescuers arrived. It was Mark who called for help by lighting signal fires, and the rescue helicopters spotted him the next day. They also found Kris and his dog, and they were amazed that the dogs stayed by Kris’ side.
They immediately took the injured dogs to the vet while Kris’ body was brought to his family in Long Island, New York. The rescue organization Mr.Bones & Co, set up a GoFundMe account to ask for help in covering the two dogs’ medical bills. In just four days of launching the campaign, the rescue group was able to raise the money needed for the rescue and rehabilitation of Little P and Tonka. Many donors were touched by the two dogs’ heartbreaking story.
Dave Busching, Kris’ brother, said that they were devastated about the unfortunate incident, and no one could describe the pain they felt. Kris was such a talented person with big hopes and dreams. He had an extreme lifestyle and loved outdoor activities. As Kris’ family tried to recover from the loss, the two dogs also continued to nurse themselves back to health.
Even though they were still struggling to walk, their forelegs started to heal. Both dogs were coping well with the medical treatment they received, and to pay tribute to Kris’ artistic talent, the bandage artists came up with bandage tattoos for Tonka and Little P. Mr. Bones and Co. was also searching for a potential family that would adopt the two lovely dogs together.
