From a tiny puppy abandoned on the streets, Cake, the dog was saved and put into a loving home. Later on, he returns the favor by rescuing his family.
Cake’s journey
Michelle Karpaitis was raised by her biological grandparents. The family had found Cake and initially thought he looked like a small rodent. It turned out; he was an eight-week-old puppy that was left behind on the side of the road.
The family took Cake with them and fostered her. The puppy began developing a lot of behavioral issues such as separation anxiety, hyperactivity, obsession, and resource guarding.
When Michelle’s grandparents moved into a retirement home, the dog had to move in with her. She decided to focus on studying dog psychology and dog behavior. It was a long process, but the hard work paid off.
Cake was able to pass her behavioral test, which meant that she was ready to visit the retirement home. Michelle’s grandfather, whom she calls Papa, was always happy to see Cake.
Tony’s favorite visitor
Michelle’s grandfather, named Tony, served in the military for over twenty years. He was a very hardworking man that had a pure heart.
The family noticed signs of dementia and instances where Tony would forget a lot of things. Afterward, they found out he had Alzheimer’s disease.
Every Sunday, it was Michelle’s day to bring Cake to visit. The dog would know precisely where they were and march over to Tony’s door. He’d excitedly greet him, and Tony would recognize Cake.
Michelle knows how much Tony loved Cake. He’d always tell the dog how much of a good boy he is, even though the canine was a girl.
Tony loved to give walks to Cake, which gave him a sense of purpose. Seeing her grandfather remember their beloved pet was a big deal for Michelle.
Michelle’s career
Cake inspired Michelle to become a dog trainer and behavior specialist. She would inspire a lot of people with what she experienced with Cake.
Michelle would always tell people to never give up on dogs with behavioral issues. Whenever she remembers how they saved Cake, it brings her back to when her grandparents had rescued her.
