Many stray dogs end up in situations where they end up endangering their own lives. Although dogs are resilient creatures, they are still domesticated animals that need humans to survive. This is why we have animal rescue organizations with amazing volunteers that work hard to save the lives of these animals.
In Louisiana, a couple named Chris and Claudia happened to see a dog wandering an island across a river from their vacation home. Chris and Claudia were surprised that there was a dog on that particular island since no one lived there. Chris and Claudia tried rescuing the dog but it was too skittish and avoided human contact.
Concerned about the well-being of the dog, Chris and Claudia decided to post a photo they took of the dog on social media and asked if anyone could help. Thankfully, a woman named Aja-Nikoya Estro answered the call. Aja is also the founder of an animal rescue organization called Compassion Kind and she’s experienced in performing dog rescues. After seeing the post, Aja reached out to the couple to get details about the location and she also organized a team to rescue the dog.
Aja and her team decided to name the dog Marsha and they were prepared to do everything to help rescue the stranded dog. Aja’s team prepared food for Marsha and even set up traps all across the island. However, Marsha proved to be quite intelligent and didn’t fall for the traps.
Seeing that the traps didn’t work, Aja thought of another way to catch Marsha. Aja instructed her team to stay on the boat while she goes on the island alone. Aja thought that too many people on the island must be scaring Marsha. So, Aja decided to go to the island alone and instructed her team to stay on the boat. When Aja located Marsha, Aja sat on the ground with food in her hand and beckoned Marsha to come.
Marsha was cautious but she went near Aja and ate out of her hand. After a few minutes of building trust with Marsha, Aja scooped Marsha up and carried her back to the boat. What’s even more amazing was that Marsha was so calm during the boat ride as if she knew that she was finally rescued.
After Marsha was brought back to the animal shelter, she was assessed and treated. Marsha was a little underweight but she was a healthy dog. Marsha had no microchip and no one came forward to claim her. Eventually, Marsha was fostered and she’s getting ready to find her forever family. Here’s a video showing Marsha’s rescue.
