Losing a pet is heartbreaking for it’s a daily battle of wondering how your dog is, where it is, and how it’s been eating. The daily fear of wondering if a missing dog encountered a mishap or accident is far too much for the heart. Carole King underwent such amount of stress but never gave up when her Katie, a seven-year-old border collie, went missing.
Katie went missing when Carole and her husband went on a short trip and stayed on a hotel last July. They arrived home to a missing Katie. An electrical storm took place and Katie got so scared that she devised a way to open the door — border collies are considered as one of the smartest dog breeds. Carole got sick to her stomach when she found out. So much so that she quit her job the very next day and totally devoted her days to looking for Katie.
She posted hundreds of flyers and even uploaded Katie’s photos online. They even bought cameras to help in the search.
Carole would bike and jog in neighborhoods to spread her sweat in hopes that Katie would recognize it. A lot of strangers helped in the search and would even bring them food.
The search was bleak and on around the 50th day, Carole was already feeling hopeless and in tears from being demoralized. But then came the 57th day when she received a tip.
There has been sightings of a border collie that looked like Katie near the hotel where she and her husband stayed. She went to the area and she was talking to a woman on a street when she was asked the best question ever, “Is that your dog?”
Carole immediately saw and called Katie who was then staying under a tree. Katie excitedly ran towards her!
All Carole could think of during the reunion was, “I’m done. I got her.” She was crying as she hugged Katie who lost 15 pounds and was found to be dehydrated.
As of press time, Katie is placed on a special diet and is amazingly recovering. Truly, one should never ever give up and lose hope! We are so happy for this family!
