Rescuing a stray dog takes a lot of patience. We have to understand that stray and feral dogs are very cautious when they’re around humans. Some of these dogs have experienced physical abuse from humans in the past, while others have never interacted with people during their entire lives.
A dog named Mollybear, or Molly for short, used to be a feral dog. She was fiercely independent and wouldn’t let anyone come near her. Whenever someone tried to get near her to attempt to rescue her, she would always run away.
Molly lived on a vacant property and the entire community knew about her and tried to help her as best they could. They would always provide her with food and clean water. However, when the property she lived in was going to be developed, a woman named Ryan knew she needed to help Molly.
Ryan knew that Molly is very cautious when people approach her. Molly had no experience interacting with humans before. Ryan took it slow and fed Molly every day to win her trust. It didn’t take long until Molly allowed Ryan to pet her back and give her scratches.
Considering Molly’s history, this was a huge leap forward. Eventually, Ryan was surprised to see Molly showing up near her home. She figured that Molly was beginning to trust her. Ryan decided to start feeding Molly just in front of her home.
At that point, Ryan could have easily slipped a leash on Molly’s neck but she knew that if she missed, there was a risk that she would destroy the trust she built with Molly. Ryan decided to be a little more patient and do everything at Molly’s pace.
It came to a point when Ryan started feeding Molly in her backyard. Eventually, while Molly was eating, Ryan just decided to close her backyard dog, which kept Molly on her property. Molly didn’t mind at all. She was relaxed and somehow knew she was safe. Molly spent the entire day exploring her new backyard.
Ryan did want Molly to come inside her house but Molly wasn’t ready. Ryan kept the back door open to encourage Molly to come inside. However, Molly was still a little cautious to enter her new home.
During one particularly hot day, Ryan decided to put her foot down and decided that she will get Molly inside her home that day. She fed Molly hotdogs that had Benadryl, which made her sleep. While Molly was out cold, Ryan carried her inside her home.
When Molly woke up and felt the air conditioning, she was instantly hooked and loved being indoors. Since that day, Molly became comfortable coming inside her new home. Ryan is so proud to see Molly become a dog again with the help of her other dogs. Here’s a video featuring Molly’s full transformation story.
