Derby, a husky mix dog, was raised with deformed front legs and paws. Whenever he tried to move as other dogs do, it only caused him injuries.
The Peace and Paws Animal Shelter welcomed the derby. He got Tara Anderson’s attention when he was there, a woman who works at the 3D system. This system was developed to bring 3D printer technology into the market.
Anderson knew she had to adopt another puppy because it helped the animals at the shelter. She knew she was also helping herself with her struggles by adopting another puppy.
Anderson heard the story of Derby. The dog can’t get out of her mind, making her cry. She knew that she could help the situation, and later on, she finally decided to adopt him.
She gives all the best of love to Derby. She is determined to help and let him experience life like an ordinary dog. She bought a set of wheels, but it still can’t make him run or walk.
Anderson realized that there could be another way around it. She could create a 3D-printed product with her colleagues since she works in a 3D system. This will surely give Derby the experience of walking and running.
They didn’t need a model to see how it would fit; the 3D printer would do it. They scanned Derby’s legs and modified them to fit them for him.
The prosthetic legs held them close to the ground so he wouldn’t have a sudden change from what he was used to. Derby soon got comfortable with the new prosthetic legs. He will also be given a new set of prosthetic legs as he grows.
Indeed, the power of science and technology is truly unique. It will help not only people but also other living creatures. These factors would be more beautiful if fuelled with love and care.
