Considering the stigma that people with mental illness face, sometimes, despite having a supportive family and seeking professional help, apprehension is still there.
From the young age of 16 to 22, Jamie, a now 23-year-old man, was suffering from depression. When his prescription medicines stopped working on him, opiates replaced his medications. After repeated usage, he became dependent, and soon, grew addicted to heroin.
Jamie shared how he was in a terrible place at the age of 21 and was waiting to die. With drugs taking its toll on him, he was arrested and spent a few months in prison. And ever since he entered rehabilitation, he became sober.
After getting out of rehab, Jamie said to Dog Heirs how he always wanted to own a dog, but was apprehensive and doubting at his capability of taking care one, considering he could not even manage his own life.
He also shared that because of depression, he used opiate every day and been an addict since the age of 16. But ever since Titan came into his life, he has been sober for nine months – and not wanting to fail his dog, it regained his emotions after not having one for so long because of continuous drug use.
After finishing rehab, it is unavoidable to feel cravings, and still, feel depressed. But because Jamie did not want to self-medicate and get addicted again, he knew he needed to do something to distract him.
Withdrawing one’s self to the world and the people in their lives is common for those who are suffering from depression. Loneliness and emptiness are some of the feelings that one can feel, but to Jamie, Titan was all that he needed in his life.
And just like that, Jamie and Titan became inseparable and are a match made in heaven.
