Dogs are naturally curious animals. When something catches their attention, they will try to find out what it is. They also like chasing small animals, such as squirrels and rabbits, which is quite funny. However, their curious nature can also get them into trouble, as this one dog found out the hard way.
Animal rescuers from Riverside County Animal Services received a call about a puppy that got herself stuck in a tire. They responded immediately, not really knowing what to expect. When they arrived, they were surprised that the dog somehow poked her head into the tire and got herself stuck.
Nobody knows why the dog tried going through the hole, but she must have been curious about something. The animal rescuers attempted to free the poor dog by themselves. They tried using oil to lubricate the dog’s neck, but the dog was scared and fought the rescuers when trying to push the dog’s head back.
The rescuers figured they couldn’t free the dog themselves and decided to call for extra help. Eventually, they ended up asking Cal Fire to help. The firefighters determined that one of the cutting tools they use to free car crash victims from car wrecks would be enough to release the puppy’s head from the tire.
Knowing that the noise that the cutting tool makes will scare the puppy even more and potentially injure herself, they decided to sedate her. To protect the puppy from the sparks and hot metal filings, they covered her body and head with a board while cutting the tire to make a bigger hole.
After a few minutes of cutting the tire, the firefighters could make the hole bigger and free the puppy from her predicament. The rescuers took her to the vet after being released from the tire. After she felt better and the swelling on her neck was gone, they returned her to her grateful owners. Here’s a video featuring the puppy’s rescue thanks to the efforts of amazing people.
