When a shelter called a couple to care for a pregnant pit bull, they knew they had to act quickly. The dog was about to give birth. One night, when all the shelter staff had gone home, the pit bull named Cholula gave birth. She gave birth to seven female puppies and a single male puppy.
The couple decided to foster Cholula and her puppies. The couple turned their office into a nursery and let Cholula’s family settle in. The couple was very proud of how Cholula fed and cared for her puppies 24/7. To keep Cholula and her puppies safe, the couple tried to keep their dog Ruby separate from the new family.
They did not want her to disturb the family. However, Cholula seemed to need Ruby’s company to feel safe. So the couple abandoned their first plan of separating her from Cholula and the puppies.
With the couple’s new family, they had to adjust to their non-stop exploration and cleaning. It became a full-time job. Cholula was always tired and would need to be carried to bed. Despite the exhaustion, the couple kept adjusting.
After five weeks, Cholula was done nursing her puppies, which was a huge turning point for her. She could now play with her puppies and enjoy being a dog.
Eventually, the puppies were ready to find their forever homes. The hardest part was saying goodbye to Cholula. But, the family was proud of her and happy to see her find the perfect family.
As a foster family, they know that saying goodbye never gets easier, but they are eager to do it again. After fostering Cholula and her puppies, the family realized the importance of fostering. They learned that fostering not only provides temporary homes for animals.
It also helps animal shelters and rescues free up space for other animals. Moreover, fostering helps socialize animals and prepares them for their forever homes. The family encourages anyone who loves animals to consider fostering. It is a way to make a difference in the lives of animals in need.
