Everything was so perfect for the three when an incident happened – they fell out on a sleigh pulled by the dog as they cross a frozen river. The dog fell in the icy water, and the little girl tried to rescue the dog, unfortunately, the ice cracked, and she drowned. The boy witnessed the incident and blamed himself for not being able to save his little sister. In turn, he decided to leave the dog because he is certain that he can no longer take care of him.
The dog seemed to understand what is happening and how the boy feels but is not letting go. It tried to follow him anywhere because he does not want to lose another friend, even if the boy tries to ward him off. Eventually, the boy came to its senses and realized what the dog is trying to express, so he decided that they live and protect each other forever.
