A graphic photo that a vet posted together with a warning for pet owners to be vigilant when it comes to tiny objects that they own that can be found all over the house — specifically hair ties — have gone viral.
Taryn Missildine of Westridge Animal Hospital in Texas posted a photo in Facebook that has since gone viral showing all the objects that her team pulled out from a dog.
The pet owners had their dog checked for he hasn’t been acting normal and even stopped eating. Having undergone an x-ray, all were made aware that there were at least a hundred foreign objects in the dog’s stomach. The dog had to undergo surgery right then and there.
The team pulled out a total of 109 hair ties, a teddy bear’s ear, leg, and tail, two pairs of underwear, some parts of an Easter basket and candy wrappers. All objects pulled from one poor dog who had absolutely no idea of what he’s been consuming.
The post serves as a stark reminder to the public to be extra careful and vigilant when it comes to tiny objects found all over the house. Dogs have no means of determining if a foreign harmless object like a hair tie can be toxic to them so humans must duly guide them all the time.
The vet also told pet owners to please have their dogs checked if they haven’t been acting like their usual selves.
It must be noted as well that a dog that has stomach or intestinal obstruction will tend to vomit frequently. Ingesting foreign objects can damage a dog’s intestinal wall, lead to abdominal infection, blood infection, and even death.
As of press time, 47,000 people have at least shared the viral photo.
Let this be a reminder to all that having a dog is a solid responsibility and utmost vigilance is always required.
