It’s a heartbreaking experience to see a pet dog become paralyzed. A lot of them don’t recover from this, but some do. That’s why stories of miraculous recoveries are worth sharing to inspire other dog owners.
Skylar used to be a very active dog. Her owner Olivia loved taking her on hikes, and they had a very active lifestyle. However, that part of their life came to an abrupt pause when Skylar got paralyzed after an accident.
The veterinarian who performed surgery on Skylar was not sure if she would ever walk again. Despite the odds, Olivia believed in her dog’s ability to recover. She did her best in providing everything Skylar needed to bounce back.
A week after her surgery, Skylar’s tail started to wiggle a little. Olivia took this as a good sign that filled her with hope. She then bought a harness to help prop up Skylar during physical rehabilitation.
Skylar’s energy and enthusiasm remained the same despite having limited movements. The more progress she made, the happier she got. Eventually, Olivia bought wheels that allowed Skylar to freely move around without anyone propping her up.
When the pins on her spine were removed, Skylar was able to stand up on her own. However, she didn’t fully regain her ability to walk just yet. When Olivia urged Skylar to take small steps each day, she was able to walk normally. It was like watching a baby learn to walk for the first time.
Skylar and Olivia’s life returned to the way it was before the accident. Skyler’s posture was still indicative of what she went through, and it’s there to stay. However, her emotional state and overall wellbeing were not affected by the ordeal.
Nowadays, Olivia often takes her dog to the beach. There, Skylar will run towards the sea and bark at nothingness. It’s a sight that Olivia relishes and feels grateful for.
