A rescue team saved a dog abandoned during an evacuation in Canada. The Central Okanagan Search and Rescue said that the dog’s owner dropped the canine out of the car and immediately fled the area.
The search and rescue team said that they’re deployed to inform the residents of La Casa about the evacuation order when a car suddenly stopped and dropped a dog in the middle of the road. The staff that saw the scene immediately came to the dog’s rescue and brought her back to their command base.
The dog looked hungry, so they also gave her some food and water. After some time, they started calling her Smokey. The team eventually called it a day, and a member volunteered to take the dog home, intending to surrender Smokey to Dr. Moshe Oz’s veterinary hospital. Oz is a great doctor, so they knew that the dog would be in good hands.
Fortunately, Smokey’s doing better after a few days of staying in Oz’s hospital. On Saturday, the Central Okanagan Search and Rescue decided to share Smokey’s story on social media, and it unexpectedly went viral. Since then, Oz started receiving calls from people willing to donate money and supplies. Oz was grateful.
However, he said that Smokey needed a person to adopt and take care of her more than anything. The dog was cruelly set aside, and hopefully, her next owner will love her and won’t take her for granted. Due to the wildfire evacuation, the veterinary hospital already has 16 dogs and cats. Nonetheless, Oz said that the hospital would still accommodate animals that needed shelter.
At the end of the day, it is still better to leave them in a place that is safe than to abandon them somewhere and leave them to fend for themselves. Hopefully, everything will end well for Oz and the rest of the animals temporarily residing in the veterinary hospital.
