If you’ve ever owned a dog, you’re aware that it’s natural to want to spoil your pet, which might result in you purchasing too many treats. Too much treats and even human food are unhealthy for dogs and can lead to obesity.
In Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, a woman named Pam Heggie was asked to foster an extremely obese dog. Kai, a young Golden Retriever, was already 100 pounds overweight. Pam described him as really enormous and estimated his weight to be approximately 170 pounds.
Kai’s original owners had brought the adorable dog to a veterinarian to be euthanized. They told the veterinarian that Kai could hardly walk because of his weight. Instead of putting the dog down, the veterinarian called Pam, a nurse, and requested her assistance.
When she originally brought the Golden Retriever home, Pam said that he was incapable of doing anything. She felt profound sorrow for the unfortunate animal.
Under the advice of the veterinarian, Pam put Kai on a strict diet and began walking him three times a day. It was very difficult at first, but the Golden Retriever was obedient and persistent. Pam stated that Kai could only take approximately ten steps before needing to lay down. Therefore, she chose to take him swimming to put less pressure on his body while still being able to move about. Kai began to improve as a result of the workout in the water.
After one year, the Golden Retriever had shed 100 pounds. Pam stated that Kai has taught her a great deal about optimism, determination, and goal-setting. She was impressed by the dog’s determination. She stated that he is the most formidable fighter she has ever encountered.
Pam fell in love with the Golden Retriever and adopted him. Now a member of a loving family, Kai is receiving the necessary care to live a healthy life.
