Stray Rescue of St. Louis is an animal sanctuary dedicated to rescuing stray animals and relocating them to loving homes. Two rescue volunteers from the animal shelter were on their way home when they noticed a chained Pitbull named Cobalt.
Saving Cobalt
When the rescuers approached Cobalt, the dog shook in fear. The Pittie looked so thin that the lining of his bones was visible. The volunteers almost cried, but they stayed focused on their mission.
The rescuers noticed the dog’s chain was welded into the post and thought of a way to make the rescue pain-free for the canine. Fortunately, one of the rescuers discovered a garden sheer in her car trunk.
While one rescuer attempted to break the chain, the other diverted Cobalt’s attention using a handful of treats. The chain was too thick to cut with the shears, but the rescuers didn’t give up.
Within an hour, a concerned neighbor noticed them and volunteered to assist. It took them at least thirty minutes to eventually cut the chain. The rescuers felt exhausted but so relieved that Cobalt was finally free.
The rescuers knew that the dog was starving, so they gave him lots of dog food. The rescuers felt sorry for the canine and were furious at his previous owners for the maltreatment.
Road to rehabilitation
Cobalt spent a few days at the rescue facility, receiving round-the-clock care from the kind staff. After a few weeks, he gained some weight and showed good progress.
An active shelter volunteer happily offered to foster Cobalt. The dog had difficulty adjusting to his new home, but his foster mother was kind and patient.
Cobalt finally attained his weight goal after two months inside his foster home. He became a playful and loving dog while waiting for the right family to adopt him. All of this wouldn’t have been possible without the support of his heroic rescuers.
