A woman noticed something unusual during a nice bike ride through the park. She pedaled closer to the nearby creek to see what was happening and screamed in fear when she saw two men attempting to drown a helpless dog.
Fighting for freedom
Startled by the woman’s scream, the two men hurriedly let go of the dog and ran to their car. The attackers drove away and almost hit the woman, but she dodged the vehicle and landed on the side of the creek.
The dog tried his best to stay afloat, but it was clear that he couldn’t hold on any longer. Despite being in excruciating pain, the woman crawled towards the creek’s edge and reached out for the dog’s front leg. After minutes of tugging and pulling, she safely got the dog onshore and comforted the poor animal.
A bystander that witnessed the scene contacted the local animal control services. Within a few minutes, officer Lauren Warburton arrived at the scene.
The two ladies worked together and carried the dog inside the van. They transported the animal to the Thomasville-Thomas County Humane Society and renamed her Miss Hicks.
Safe zone
Some lab tests were done, and the dog was diagnosed with heartworm. Miss Hicks was placed under the humane society’s care, where she received daily medication. She was too timid to interact with the other dogs, but the staff patiently let the dog heal in her own time, knowing all the hardship she had experienced.
After a few weeks at the facility, Miss Hicks made significant progress. Initially, the four-year-old puppy was terrified, but she soon became joyful and affectionate toward the staff who cared for her.
The kind woman who rescued Miss Hicks requested anonymity, but she paid for the dog’s adoption fees and heartworm medicine. Everyone involved was thankful that this compassionate stranger stood up to the cruelty, and they hoped that more dog lovers would get inspired to do the same.
