Dog Car Safety Tips

Bringing your dog to different places is a fun experience, but at all times, fun should not compromise safety. So before you go out and tag your dog along with you inside the car, you have to make sure that both of you will reach your destination safe and sound. There are a lot of things that you can do in order to ensure that your dog is safe and comfortable as you travel. Some of these things ate the following:

1. Buckle Up

Just like you, your dog should be buckled up too. Besides, buckling up your dog with their own seatbelt is the safest thing that you can do for them as you travel. Using a seatbelt doesn’t just keep your dog in his place but it keeps him safe from severe injury or death in case of an accident.

2. Keeping Your Dog out of Your Lap

There’s no denying that dogs are a big fan of shotgun seats. This makes it important that you have a barrier most especially when your dog is hyper and clingy. Having a barrier in your car will also ensure that your dog won’t disturb you as you drive to avoid getting into an accident. When it comes to the barrier that you can, you have a lot of options to choose from in accordance with the car that you have. Some barriers will keep your dog at the back of your car while other barriers will have them caged and placed beside you.

3. Take Breaks

Keep in mind that your dog doesn’t have the same immunity as you are. Every now and then, your dog will need car snacks, water, and potty breaks. When traveling, make sure that you have enough water and food supply for your dog. Furthermore, bringing with you meals treats, and chew toys are a great way to distract your dog as you travel. Moreover, you also have to make sure that you stop every now and then for your dog to pee or poop.

4. Check the Temperature in the Car

If in case you have to go out of the car and leave your dog in there, you have to make sure that the car temperature is good enough for your dog. You might feel cold outside, but the temperature inside the car is different. For example, the temperature outside the car is 70 degrees, the temperature outside the car might go as high as 100 degrees which can kill your dog.

Sharing a lot of things including going out to different places with your dog is fun and exciting. As you both embark into an adventure, keep your safety at the top of everything in order to do more memories together.
