Once you have a baby, you’d know how exciting and difficult it is to raise a child. Women may carry more of the burden during pregnancy and birth, but caring for a newborn is a task done by both parents. And like humans, dogs also experience sleepless nights as they tend to their babies.
Ask Chewie and Jax here. They are both German shepherd males who are proud parents of 10 adorable babies. Yes, that’s right! They are both males. So you must be wondering, right? Ok, let’s hear it.
Chewie and Jax live with their mom, Tracy. Now that Chewie is 4 years old and Jax is 2, it’s probably the right time for them to enter parenthood. But unlike a typical pack, Chewie and Jax are parents to 10 chicks instead of puppies.
When Tracy bought the chicks, she intended to care for them free-range, just able to roam around their property. She wanted to get the dogs used to them in the hopes that they’ll be Chewie’s and Jax’s friends rather than dinner. So, Tracy started placing the chicks near the German shepherds while she closely watches.
To Tracy’s surprise, Chewie and Jax did not just befriend the little chicks. They also became parents to them. And while they are males, they both have maternal instincts.
The pups were so gentle with the chicks. They are always careful any time one or all of them squeezes their tiny bodies in their warm fur. And like any other parents, Chewie and Jax patiently raise their ‘children chicks’.
The sweet boys gave their babies their first bath by gently licking them. They also had sleepless nights and days watching over them. And most importantly, Chewie and Jax taught them how to be independent.
This family may be odd, but Chewie and Jax proved that love knows no species. And they couldn’t be any prouder for having raised the chickens.
