In the United States, it’s not only humans who are prone to get fatter and fatter every year. Sadly, this is happening to our dogs as well.
However, unlike their two-legged companions, dogs can’t open refrigerators or open up a bag of chips for a midnight snack by themselves. This means that there is only one reason for them to get fat, and I’m sure you pet owners know who that reason is…
Surprisingly, vets say that almost 20% of pet owners acknowledge that their dog needs to lose a bit of weight. However, they don’t really see this as causing any problems for their dogs. Wrong!
Even if you may think that chubby puppies are cute and more cuddly, there are serious health concerns that come along with the excess weight they may carry. Let’s face it; if a dog is over their recommended weight limit, then they are obese.
With obesity comes ailments such as diabetes, heart disease, arthritis, bladder and urinary problems, high blood pressure, and many more. These are the kinds of illnesses you are sure you do not want your dogs to have.
You can help out your dog get back into the best shape possible, but prevention is always better than a cure. If you love your dog and want them to live a happy, long and healthy life, you can go through the steps in order for them to do so.
For one thing, you should be mindful of their diet. Each dog has a recommended daily amount of food that they should eat. You can also get your veterinarian to suggest the best diet and exercise for them.
If you do this, you won’t ever have to worry about your dog getting too fat and sick in the future!
