While dogs are highly intelligent and trainable animals, there are certain things that they are not capable of doing. For one, they cannot read just like a human being because they do not have the faculty to speak.
This mom, however, refuses to believe this narrative as she patiently teaches her beloved dog how to read. Christina Hunger is a speech-language pathologist by profession. On the side, she is a mom to an 18-month old pooch named Stella.
The range of Hunger’s expertise includes teaching children with speech and language defects and assisting adults with communication needs. Hunger, however, does not stop there. One day, she thought of teaching her dog Stella the basics of reading.
Although she is aware the skills of dogs are limited, she still tried instilling in Stella the value of reading. Her teaching technique on Stella, though, differs from what she uses to her actual students.
Hunger made a unique way for Stella to communicate. It is by stepping on particular buttons whenever Stella would ask the dog questions. The dog uses the buttons to deliver whatever her thoughts are to Stella.
As of now, Stella knows 29 words. The dog knows how to combine these words to make a sentence. Hunger said that she gets shocked every time she teaches the dog because Stella is so attentive to learn.
In most cases, Stella would also ask a favor to Hunger by stepping on the buttons. According to Hunger, there was one time that the dog wanted to go out for a walk. Since the dog knows the button for the word walk, Stella combined it with the button outside.
From there, Hunger knew that the dog wants to play outside. Hunger gladly joined Stella in walking out. Hunger said there are still too many things the dog could learn about reading and communicating. Hunger said she would gladly teach Stella these things.
