A big cat attacking a puppy in the Northern Indian Forest was very surprised when a fearless dog jumped in and fought the predator off.
Nimachal Pradesh from the Indian Forest Service office caught the entire attack and rescue on camera for CCTV. The puppy was resting on a porch right outside the office, when the leopard decided he needed a quick snack and jumped in to grab the puppy and run.
The Brave momma was having none of her puppy being a snack, and quickly jumped into the fray and chased the big cat back into the forest.
“The dog and its puppy were sitting in front of the office door when the leopard attacked the puppy all of a sudden,” said divisional forest officer Mrityunjay Madhav.
“The dog chased the leopard in a bid to save its baby from its grip.” The fearless mother seemed to have not only saved her pup, but also injured the leopard during the encounter according to Mr. Madhav.
This story is a great example of the bravery of dogs when faced by a hungry foe, twice its size. The only thing she was worried about was protecting her pup. The brave mother never considered her own well being.
If you ever wonder why the dog is considered “Man’s Best Friend” look no further then this story of a loving mother that can be loving and incredibly brave. Later an injured leopard was spotted in the area, and believed to be the same leopard that was attacked by the dog.
Reports were sent to other forest departments warning people of the injured leopard, and asking them to be diligent if they left their homes or had pets outside. Injured animals can be desperate, angry and ultimately dangerous to humans or other small animals, so all precautions were being taken.
Neighbors in the area were told to take a stick or other type of weapon outside with them if they had to leave their homes, so they could fight off the leopard., if there was an encounter.
Officials believe that a recent forest fire in the area forced the leopard and other wild animals from the jungle into areas inhabited by humans. In fact a 60 year old man from Bengaluru in southern India was attacked a few weeks earlier when a large leopard barged into his home.
