When Julep was brought to the Humane Rescue Alliance, Washington D.C.’s agency for protecting and rescuing children and animals, the 18-year-old pit bull was the oldest rescue animal that they ever took in. They were unsure if anyone would ever adopt the dog. It was likely that she will spend her remaining days inside their facility.
The senior dog was left homeless when her elderly owner passed away. No one in the family took her, so animal control had to bring the old pooch to the shelter. The staff members were heartbroken to see the dog so sad and lonely. She had spent most of her life in a happy home, and now, she is confused about the changes.
In the same situation
Wayne Lerch is an avid biker from Washington D.C. that has recently gone through a heartbreaking experience. His pet, a female pit bull that has been with him for 11 years, has just passed away. Wayne was very attached to his dog, and her demise has left him grieving.
One day, he was going through the Facebook Page of Humane Rescue Alliance and chanced upon Julep’s photo. Wayne felt a connection with the dog, and the very next day, he showed up at the shelter’s front doors. The biker wanted to meet the sad pooch.
Wayne wasn’t sure that he was ready to get a new pet, so he decided to bring his bike. That way, he couldn’t take the dog back home with him. But when they met, the tough biker’s heart quickly melted. He fell in love with Julep and knew right away that they were meant to be with each other.
Destiny
Wayne filed for Julep’s adoption that same day. He went home with his bike and came back to the shelter with his car. Before the day ended, the two were living together.
According to the kind man, his new dog has helped him get over his grief. The dog has become happier as well, as she now has a new dad. Both of them are saving one another.
