PET CARE TIPS: 8 Things Veterinarians Do For Their Own Pets

PET CARE TIPS: 8 Things Veterinarians Do For Their Own Pets

Who can better care for pets than veterinarians? They studied animal anatomy and they get paid to apply such knowledge. Knowing what they know can make a whole lot of difference for you and your dog. If you want to care for your dog the way veterinarians care for theirs, you can do the following:

1. Aggressive protection from fleas

Vets are proactive when it comes to flea protection. They know that once we see an adult flea on our dog, that means there are already a number of eggs, larvae, and pupae around. To avoid this, vets don’t just apply flea control during summer. They do it all year round.

2. Early training

Vets train their pets early as dogs are easier to teach when they are younger. They use positive enforcement with the help of toys and treats.

3. Updated vaccines

Vets keep a dedicated record of all their dog’s vaccines and scheduled vaccines. They make sure that such a list is accessible to all household members.

4. Same place for all pet supplies

Vets assign a dedicated space for all pet supplies and pet-related items in their homes. This ensures hassle-free pet care at any time of the day as they don’t need to be all over the house to get whatever they need.

5. No human shampoo

Vets never use human shampoo on their dogs. Human shampoo is too strong for your pet’s skin.

6. Microchipping

Vets have their pets microchipped — even indoor-only pets. This ensures easy identification and reunion should their pets go missing.

7. Nail trick

Vets walk their dogs after nail trimming. Walking effectively tames and smoothens rough edges on newly cut dog nails.

8. Measured portions

Vets use a measuring cup when preparing food for their dogs. This allows for the effective prevention of obesity.
