Senior dogs might have a tougher time finding permanent homes compared to pups. People usually want young dogs, and senior dogs usually have stayed in shelters too long that they have become distrustful of humans. If senior dogs are adopted, they find it hard to adjust to living in a new home.
It is a good thing that there are still people who choose to adopt senior dogs. One of the luckier doggos to get a home is a senior pit bull named Bonita who was finally able to get a forever home after spending 500 days in a shelter.
In 2018, a four-year-old pit bull mix that was called Bonita was brought to the Niagara County Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) which is in New York. After spending more than 12 months in the shelter, no one still adopted her. Staff members were unhappy she hasn’t found a home yet since Bonita is a kind-hearted, happy dog who likes taking walks, playing ball, and cuddling.
The employees at Niagara County SPCA were pleased when Bonita was eventually adopted. The shelter reported that the pit bull had found a home in time for Christmas. A family had arrived at the shelter and wondered which dog had stayed there for the longest time. They met Bonita and decided to adopt her that day.
The Niagara County SPCA employees were very happy for Bonita that they threw her a great going away party. The festivities ended with the staff members throwing confetti as Bonita walked out of the shelter with her new owners. The pit dog was jumping for joy, giving each staff member a goodbye as she walked to the car.
Bonita’s new owner, Ray Kinz, provided some heartwarming images of Bonita enjoying her new life. Ray complimented the Niagara County SPCA for its care of the pit bull and reported that she is thriving in her new home. Ray has also created an Instagram account for Bonita so that he may share all the amusing things she is now doing.
