Rescue dogs are always fearful of things that remind them of the pain and suffering that they experienced in the past. Most rescue dogs in shelters have a sad story to tell. However, once they are shown love, they will return that love ten times over. This is what makes rescue dogs amazing and why we should always consider adopting a rescue dog.
A teenager named Mason always wanted to have a pet. However, all of the dogs he visited in the shelter weren’t really saying anything to him. He didn’t feel the connection. Mason felt that there was a dog out there for him. Eventually, Mason met Hedgie and thought that he was the dog for him.
Before Hedgie met Mason, Hedgie’s didn’t live a good life. When Hedgie was still a puppy, he was tied outside his owner’s home. Hedgie didn’t know what it’s like to be cared for and loved by a family. He was eventually rescued and stayed in the shelter where Mason met him.
Hedgie was afraid of everything. He didn’t trust anyone and was so sad when Mason and his family first brought him home. Mason felt the sadness that Hedgie was feeling and decided to let Hedgie sleep on his bed with him for the night.
The next day, Hedgie was a completely different dog. He bonded with Mason literally overnight and would always follow him wherever he went. Hedgie was a happy dog whenever he’s around Mason, but he still felt scared around other people.
Mason and Hedgie were inseparable. Mason became Hedgie’s big brother and looked up to him for protection. Hedgie completely trusts Mason, and he would do whatever tricks that Mason teaches him. Mason also took Hedgie shopping for his first toy.
Everything was going well with Hedgie until one day when the family saw that he had trouble walking and eating. They took Hedgie to the veterinarian and found out that he was suffering from a condition called megaesophagus.
This condition meant that Hedgie couldn’t get food down his throat. Most veterinarians would recommend that Hedgie be put to sleep. However, it wasn’t an option for Mason and his family. They know that as long as they can give Hedgie a good quality of life, he should continue to live.
So, to help Mason eat his food, they built a special chair for Mason to sit in whenever it’s mealtime. Mason would hand-feed Mason during meal times, and he would keep his dog company while gravity helps get the food down to Hedgie’s stomach.
Hedgie still lives a happy life despite his condition. As long as Hedgie is happy and not suffering, Mason will always be there for him. Here’s a heartwarming video showing the brotherly love between Mason and Hedgie. It’s an amazing bond that will surely touch your heart.
