Los Angeles was a great place, but not if you’re a homeless dog. This particular dog was happy to receive treats from people walking down the streets, but that was it. She didn’t let them get close to her, and most people were happy not to push their luck.
It was inevitable that someone would see her and report her situation. And when it finally happened, nobody was more thankful than she was. Her initial reaction was to avoid them like she avoided everyone else, but she changed her mind quickly enough.
It was past midnight, and the rescuers expected that it would take a while to find her. But almost as soon as they got out of their car, they saw her hanging out not too far away. They approached the dog with caution.
Once the rescuers were near enough, they began by leaving bits of food for her to nibble on. She accepted the food but made no effort to close the distance between her and the rescuers. They were going to have to take it slow if they wanted her to trust them.
The rescuers tried a few times to wrap around her neck, a snare, or a leash. But they could never get to move in the direction that they wanted because vehicles kept passing by. The sounds of engines would always freak her out, and she would move away from their grasp.
One rescuer finally managed to catch her off-guard and fastened a snare just below her head. The dog was so taken aback, and in her panic, nearly ended up bruising herself. They tried their best to calm her down with soft touches and used the remaining cheeseburger to distract her.
She relaxed when she realized that it was pointless to continue struggling. But as a safety precaution, the rescuers opted to walk her to their vehicle rather than carry her. The dog was named Ocean.
