Even though Moby is one of the sweetest dogs anyone could ever meet, he has struggled to find a forever home. He has been adopted three times, and each ended in disappointment. His owners would return him to the shelter in just a few days.
The reason this has happened is because he is a special needs dog. He was diagnosed with a medical condition called Cerebellar Hypoplasia. It causes him to be wobbly on his feet and has negatively affected his vision. Moby also has a chronic kidney condition that requires a special diet and constant hydration of his body.
Most people couldn’t handle the extra responsibilities, so finding a family willing to provide the extra care he needed wasn’t easy.
Willing and able
When Moby was returned the third time, the shelter staff was beginning to lose hope that he would ever find the perfect owner for him. But fate gave him one more chance.
While on a routine checkup in an animal clinic, a kind vet assistant named Alex developed a bond with the dog. When she learned that the dog was getting returned to the shelter multiple times, she believed that the poor pooch was meant to be hers.
Because of her experience working with sick animals, she had the skills and patience to care for them. She immediately adopted Moby.
Custom wheelchair
With a determined new mom, Moby started to flourish. He was now enjoying the life of a beloved pet. But he was still unsteady on his feet and struggled to move. Alex knew the dog needed stability. A custom wheelchair would help give him that.
The dedicated dog owner started an online fundraising campaign. In a few short weeks, Alex reached her goal. With a new set of wheels, his range of activities expanded. Moby joined her mom on her outdoor adventures. He now goes on hikes, plays with other dogs in the park, and enjoys the sand on beaches.
